WASHINGTON — At the beginning of the daily COVID-19 Task Force Briefing Thursday, President Trump thanked Republicans and Democrats of the Senate for passing the $2.2 trillion financial relief package.
“I want to thank Democrats and Republicans in the Senate for unanimously passing the largest financial relief package in American history,” said Trump. “I’m profoundly grateful that both parties came together to provide relief for American workers and families in this hour of need.”
The bill now moves to the House of Representatives.
Trump says that he hopes it can pass through the House without delay.
The proposed $2.2 trillion bill would be the largest economic rescue measure in history and would allow businesses to continue to pay their workers through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This would allow our economy to quickly accelerate as soon as we defeat the virus,” said Trump at Wednesday’s briefing.
Trump also outlined Wednesday what the bill would mean for American families.
“$300 billion in direct cash payments will be available for every American citizen earning less than $99,000 per year,” said Trump. “That would be $3,400 very quickly for the typical family of four.”
