WASHINGTON — At the daily COVID-19 task force briefing, President Trump said that Republicans and Democrats in the Senate are “very close” to passing an emergency relief bill.
The proposed $2.2 trillion bill would be the largest economic rescue measure in history.
The bill would allow businesses to continue to pay their workers through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This would allow our economy to quickly accelerate as soon as we defeat the virus,” said Trump.
Trump also outlined what the bill would mean for American families.
“$300 billion in direct cash payments will be available for every American citizen earning less than $99,000 per year,” said Trump. “That would be $3,400 very quickly for the typical family of four.”
In addition, independent contractors and the self-employed would be eligible for expanded unemployment benefits even though they usually are not.
Trump added that the average American who has lost their job would receive all of their salary for up to four full months should the $2.2 trillion bill be passed.
