PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday to the Lexington Hills Apartment Complex in the 3400 block of W. Oakcrest.
Crews first arriving on the scene reported heavy smoke coming from inside the building. A dispatcher relayed to them that there were people trapped on possibly the second floor.
Firefighters located a family of four on the third floor that were not able to exit their apartment. They were rescued through a third floor window and down a ladder.
The victims were transported by ambulance to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment. Their conditions were not available.
The fire was extinguished quickly, and the building was cleared of remaining occupants. The fire was contained to a second floor apartment.
An investigator was called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
There was no report of any firefighter injuries.
