PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighter/paramedics were called out around 4 p.m. Tuesday to 1315 W. John Gwynn because of a reported structure fire.
When fire crews arrived, they found smoke bellowing from the front door of the house.
Firefighters made quick work in containing the blaze to the kitchen.
According to Peoria Fire Battalion Chief Ralph Phillips, three occupants were home at the time.
Two occupants quickly evacuated the home, but one person suffered smoke inhalation while trying to escape.
The person was transported to a local hospital, and their condition is unknown at this time.
No other injuries were reported.
“More than likely, unattended food cooking on stove” caused the fire, according to Phillips.
