PEORIA, Ill. — There was not a COVID-19 case in the Peoria International Airport control tower.
“The case was actually not in the tower,” said Gene Olson, Peoria Director of Airports. “It was a [technical operations] employee who actually reports to work in the Byerly Building, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) leases space in there.”
The employee was already on an extended period of leave and never went into the control tower.
Olson said that the employee did go out to lunch with four co-workers.
“And all five of them are self-isolating right now. There was absolutely no impact in the control tower,” Olson said.
If there is a confirmed case in an airport control tower, the tower will be shut down to be cleaned and sanitized.
The Airport Authority also granted Chair Karen Jensen Emergency Authority in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, which allows her to issue a state of emergency.
