PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria City/County Health Department announced zero new COVID-19 cases Tuesday at the daily news conference.
This keeps the local total in the Tri-County area at eight. There are five cases in Peoria County, three cases in Woodford County and zero cases in Tazewell County.
There have been 66 negative tests and 31 are still pending.
Public Health Administrator Monica Hendrickson is urging area citizens to continue to follow the stay-at-home order enacted by Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
“This is a community response,” said Hendrickson. “We need to work together in assuring the health and safety of all of us.”
The Center for Prevention of Abuse CEO Carol Merna was also present at the daily news conference to discuss domestic violence as many people are quarantined together.
Merna reminded those in Peoria that they provide free services to those who may be suffering from abuse. She also said that abusers may use opportunities like quarantining to further abuse in a dangerous environment.
In addition, everyone receives a virus screening before entering their locations.
Peoria County Superintendent Beth Crider gave an update regarding meals for students now that it has been over a week since the school closures were announced.
“In the four days that we had no school and were sheltering-in-place last week, we served over 15,000 meals in Peoria County,” said Crider.
Crider also announced that Peoria Public Schools is transitioning to delivering multiple meals, instead of one, at a time. Deliveries will be made on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to reduce the amount of time that people have to spend outside their homes.
