SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — As Illinois battles COVID-19, volunteers and blood donors are in demand.
Food banks, the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, the American Red Cross and other agencies are looking for help.
Gov. J-B Pritzker said you can find opportunites to volunteer at serve.illinois.gov.
“This is an opportunity for healthy college students looking for something to do, or individuals who are not able to work from home to help,” Pritzker said.
Gov. Pritzker said you can also check on your elderly neighbors or give blood.
Celena Roldan, with the American Red Cross of Illinois, said the country is facing a severe shortage of blood, since so many blood drives have been cancelled.
“Blood banks are still open and need your help. Donating blood is a safe process. And, healthy people should not hesitate to give. We’re asking people to please make appointments. We’re currently running our blood drives with new safety and health protocols, including social distancing, limiting the number of donors that can give blood at one time,” Roldan said.
