PEORIA, Ill. — Don’t cancel your vacation just yet.
Fears over how long the coronavirus pandemic will last have some travelers worried about scheduling spring and summer vacations. But, Peoria’s Director of Airports Gene Olson, says go ahead and book your flight.
“You want to take a trip in July, but you’re worried this might not be over yet. You could still book the trip, and be able to move it,” Olson said.
Olson told WMBD’s Greg and Dan, the airlines that fly into the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport have started waiving change or cancellation fees, to help ease passengers minds about booking their trips.
Olson said it’s currently business as usual at PIA. Though, he adds that there have been fewer cars in the parking the past few days.
Olson said flight may not be full, but it’s safe to fly.
“You know, the danger if you’re going to travel is not from the airplane or from the surfaces in the airport. It’s from person-to-person contact,” Olson said.
Olson said surfaces at Peoria International Airport are sanitized daily to help ensure passengers’ safety.
