EAST PEORIA, Ill. — The East Peoria Police Department is modifying response to some calls.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, East Peoria Police Deputy Chief Rich Brodrick said, if a call for police can be handled by phone, officers will contact the victim or complainant that way to get information necessary to complete a report or answer questions.
“If you call in for something that is a non-priority call that could just be taken over the phone, which is basically just information gathering that can be taken over the phone, and we would go from there,” Brodrick said.
There are exceptions such as in-progress calls and calls that include potential physical harm.
Brodrick said the change is being made to help limit public safety and personnel’s exposure to COVID-19.
“Our biggest thing on this is just the safety of the public in general and the employees,” Brodrick said.
