PEORIA, Ill. — For two weeks, the Greater Peoria Mass Transit District will suspend fare collection on all transportation services beginning March 17.
Emily Watson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, said this includes CityLink fixed bus routes, CityLink paratransit service, and CountyLink rural transportation services.
“That means that people do not need to pay a fare to ride any of those services, nor do they need to use a bus pass of any kind,” Watson said. “We are taking this extra measure to basically reduce and eliminate the amount of physical contact that the bus operators need to make with passengers.”
Right now, the anticipated date that bus riders will need to resume paying a fare is April 1.
“We are strongly encouraging everyone that has a bus pass that’s either been activated or not activated to hold on to it,” Watson said.
Watson said the buses are being regularly cleaned.
“We want our passengers that are still using our services to be assured that we are making sure that the buses are clean and that we are trying to provide them with a safe environment when they are riding the bus,” Watson said.
Hand-sanitizer is also on every bus for passengers to use.
