LINCOLN, Ill. — The Illinois State Police confirm a small plane crashed at approximately 8:49 a.m. Tuesday at mile marker 126 on I-55 in Lincoln.
The southbound lanes of I-55 near the crash site were closed.
The ISP has confirmed that three people have died in the crash.
Multiple Agencies were called to the scene to assist.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was notified and is responding.
The ISP said I-55 southbound traffic was diverted at mile marker 126 into Lincoln by I-DOT.
The southbound road closure was expected to last an extended period of time (4-5 hours).
