LINCOLN, Ill. — The Illinois State Police confirm a small plane crashed at approximately 8:49 a.m. Tuesday at mile marker 126 on I-55 in Lincoln.
The southbound lanes of I-55 near the crash site have been closed.
The ISP said there were multiple passengers on the plane. Their conditions were not available.
Multiple Agencies were called to the scene to assist.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and is responding.
The ISP’s Facebook post said I-55 southbound traffic has been diverted at mile marker 126 into Lincoln by I-DOT.
The I-55 southbound road closure is expected to last an extended period of time (4-5 hours).
