FARMINGTON, Ill. — A tank containing anhydrous ammonia caused the response of multiple fire agencies, including the City of Peoria HAZMAT crews to help contain the chemical leak by 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
According to Fulton County ESDA Coordinator Chris Helle, fire officials were called to leak on Rt.116 near Silvercreek Road after 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
The leak was still being contained as of 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
“HAZMAT crews from the City of Peoria arrived on scene,” Helle told WMBD News.
Residence in the area near Silvercreek Road were evacuated out of precaution.
Fulton County Sheriff closed a portion of Rt. 116, a mile west of Farmington in the Holdridge road area due to the leak.
Agencies responded to the scene include half of Fulton county, Illinois State Police and the Salvation Army.
The area was secure by 5:00 p.m Saturday.
No injuries reported.
