MARSHALL COUNTY, Ill. – A Peoria man has died after an accident Sunday afternoon.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and EMS received a call at 2:48 p.m. for a two vehicle collision on Route 29 at the intersection of Thenius Rd.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said according to witnesses and reports, 69-year-old Donald “Skip” Burhans of Peoria, was traveling southbound on Rt. 29 in the northbound lane. His vehicle struck a northbound traveling pick-up truck head on.
Officers found Burhans unresponsive and restrained by his seatbelt. After he was removed from the vehicle, he was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in grave condition.
Harwood said that despite aggressive resuscitative efforts, Burhans was pronounced deceased at 3:51 p.m.
Preliminary autopsy and toxicology results are pending at this time.
The identity of the other driver is unknown.
