PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Firefighter/Paramedics were called to a working house fire in the 2000 block of NE Monroe St. just after 2:30 Saturday morning.
While in route to the scene, dispatch relayed that Peoria Police on scene believed the house to be vacant.
Upon arrival, crews saw the structure was fully involved and heavy smoke coming from all sides. Crews were forced to make a defensive strategy, making extinguishing the fire difficult.
Crews remained on scene for an extended period of time to wet down the hot spots.
Peoria Public Works was called to the scene and determined the structure should be razed as soon as possible.
Damage estimates are around $90,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
