Metamora’s board of trustees unanimously approved a marijuana sales tax Tuesday night.
A three-percent sales tax would be applied to recreational cannabis sold in the village.
The vote does not guarantee the sale of marijuana in Metamora, but local governments need to pass any taxes on marijuana by October 1st ahead of the January 1st legalization.
Metamora could still vote to ban the sale of recreational pot.
The city is still drafting an ordinance that will be discussed at a later date that would regulate any facilities that would potentially open up in Metamora.
